About Sunflowers

Sunflowers is an independent publication launched in April 2026 by Elijah Tarabulsi. I write about current political events, history, and philosophy, primarily through a leftist lens.

One of the greatest challenges facing the left today is the sheer degree of division within it, and the amount of in-fighting that has resulted. This, along with myriad other challenges in today's capitalist society, have made it difficult to organize the masses in a meaningful and effective way. This is just another blog by a pair of leftists unhappy with the state of the world today. I am not going to use this platform to bring down or disparage or further divide other leftists. Furthermore, if your interest lies solely in learning more about leftist politics/philosophy and engaging with leftist organizations as they exist today, this blog is not going to be the best way to do that. There are already many existing online sources of information to learn more about leftist philosophy and many existing leftist political organizations. (see the "Reading Recs" section for some of those resources)

Instead, this blog is just for those who may be interested in listening to takes by me: the son of immigrants who grew up living in the imperial core (as a poor religious and ethnic minority) with an interest in history (particularly as it pertains to the Middle East and Latin America) and leftist politics, using that to try to make sense of current events and determining the best way forward.
